Keep This Quiet! goes to Village Lights Bookstore

Village Lights Bookstore in Indiana, the official bookstore of the Gonzo Fest this year, is the perfect place for Keep This Quiet! books. And the co-owner has requested that I send copies. This led to a startling discovery. Not only do the owners have a ballet background but they also have a modern dance (Martha Graham) background in these days when most people who teach (or mention) modern call it "contemporary," and it's mixed with jazz. So I was amazed to see that after receiving this note in...

The Ghosts of Virginia and Hunter S. Thompson roam the city library’s aisles

Gonzo Fest is THIS WEEKEND. I am excited to be in a literary panel, along with Bill McKeen, Ron Whitehead, Juan Thompson, and Rory Feehan -  moderated  by Michael Lindenberger, a journalist on the editorial board of the Dallas Morning News. It will take place in the Louisville library Saturday the 15th at 4:30. Below - anticipating that event -  is an excerpt of an article by Ron Whitehead in Leo Weekly: Fiction is a bridge to the truth that journalism can’t reach. Facts are lies when the...

Gonzo Today interview: C. A. Seller with Margaret Harrell

Gonzo Today contributor C. A. Seller interviewed me at length, over multiple emails, and then got down to the actual questions, which are included in the final piece. Hats off to him for such work. And there's a fantastic bit of artwork by publisher Clayton Luce that you have to see, whether you read a word. So here's the link: The prepping was a series of emails in which Charlie probed as to what kind of person I was and answered back about himself in kind. That was in addition to actually o...

Gonzo Fest Photos ’16-’19

Gonzo Fest 2019 was a lavish extravaganza. It just finished, February 20, in coordination with a Year of Hunter S. Thompson in Louisville that included a Frazier Museum exhibit and a Speed Museum exhibit, followed by a day at the Free Public Library, with panels and music. Photos from those events will follow. Meanwhile, here are two photos by Jeffrey Parrish and there is a post of GF 2019 by me photos at the bottom of this page.                  ...

Gonzo Fest 2014 photo

A late-arriving memory from the Gonzo Fest 2014. Courtesy of Eduardo Ritter yesterday. I like the photo and what it brings up. The one-year anniversary is almost here. How wonderful it was to discover Louisville and make new friends. See others for the first time! Everyone should attend at least one Gonzo Fest. James Mohan, who is also in the photo, lives in Boston and is an old friend from way back when we worked together in Yellowstone Park at Old Faithful in the soda shop a couple of summers....

Meeting Nick Storm

September 29, 2011 I have just sent away two copies of Keep This Quiet to a film maker who is going to the Gonzo Fest in Louisville, KY, on the 15th. As coincidence would have it, that's the official pub date of this book. I can imagine him reading from a letter that Hunter wrote this very month eons ago, when he was trying to get Hell's Angels to press. He wrote back then, practically the first letter - from San Francisco: Dear Margaret Ann— It is now four hours and twenty min...

Ron Whitehead warms up the audience at gonzofest2014

Margaret A. Harrell was a speaker at GonzoFest 2014
It was a long process, but finally, thanks to Lumena Atherton's work in cutting the video into clips, I can post a few glimpses into my presentation at the Gonzo Fest in Louisville last April. Thanks also of course to filmographer/political journalist Nick Storm, of Storm Generation Films, who is presently making a full-length biographical film of Ron Whitehead. This YouTube clip is the introduction to my talk at an Indie bookstore--a colorful lead-in by Ron Whitehead. It's always interesti...
