Here is what Wikipedia says about its name change: “The Christopher Street–Stonewall station, formerly known as Christopher Street–Sheridan Square, is a local station on the IRT Broadway–Seventh Avenue Line of the New York City Subway. Located at the intersection of Christopher Street and Seventh Avenue South” in a historic section in the heart of Greenwich Village.
