Keep This Quiet! has just gone live.

I found that out to my surprise this morning. Doing my usual rounds of checking up on it, what did I see but “in stock.” B & N still has it at a 32% discount, with immediate shipping.

Amazon doesn’t yet have the correct information but it will by the middle of next week, or earlier. Then it will update its display to reflect correct shipping date and discounts.

In the meantime, B & N has the floor all to itself.

I was worried that it would turn out the other way around and Amazon would go live first, leaving all those B & N preorders in a precarious state. But by luck the timing is perfect, just as if a masterhand planned it. Normally a book can control its pub date. This one was not that controllable.

So it’s happened. The book’s gone live. And also, it’s just in time to go to the Gonzo Fest in Louisville, KY, next weekend. That is, if the independent filmmaker, Nick Storm, of Storm Generation Films, who synchronistically requested a copy, takes it. He’s filming for a documentary on the poet Ron Whitehead. I would not like to use a minute of the time that belongs to the poet. But if it happens that here and there someone gets wind of this book at the festival, then that’s fitting. After all, it’s Hunter’s hometown, and  many of the words inside this book are his.

Years ago, when Hunter was on To Tell the Truth during his press campaign for Hell’s Angels, his mother worked at a library. I would never have thought back then that I would one day write a book featuring him that might wind up in that library.

Anyway, I’ll pop champagne later.

October 4th is the pub date – firm – for Mile Marker Zero, by William McKeen, and I already know I will l love it and ordered a copy.

Also, Hunter’s Pulitzer Prize-winning friend William Kennedy has a new book out. Bound to be good also. Chango’s Beads and Two-Tone Shoes. Already climbed high on the Amazon rankings. Pub date: YESTERDAY!
